Sausage & Speciality Pie Champions!
Once again, we're the biggest single prize winner in the UK’s premier regional meat trades contest (the 25th annual Great Yorkshire Pork Pie, Sausage and Products Competition held in Bradford at the weekend).
We landed a pork pie and sausage supreme championship double in 2012 and retained the sausage title again this year, winning first prize for our traditional thick pork sausage. In fact, we won all three sausage classes, which is thought to be a competition first!
In addition, our first prize thin pork sausage was also voted reserve supreme champion sausage. Then we were also winners of the speciality sausage class with our pork, cheddar and chive sausage - one that's very popular with customers in the farm shop.
Our pie team also deserve a cheer, for winning the speciality cold eating pie class, with our pork and pepperoni pie and finishing third in the small pork pie class. For good measure, Bolster Moor Farm Shop was also presented the third prize black pudding. All in all, it's a big haul of new trophies to add to our trophy shelf.
A Great Taste of Yorkshire, Whatever the Weather!
Feature in Meat Management Magazine
Bolster Moor Farm Shop has been featured in the November 2013 issue of Meat Management magazine.
The magazine, which talks to the meat industry, interviews Simon Haigh (butcher and partner of Bolster Moor Farm Shop) on all aspects of the business, in a 4-page feature. It looks at our history and family story as well as our champion farm shop produce and our seasonal Bolster Moor magazine.
It focuses also on Bolster Moor Coffee Shop and in particular, the awards it has already begun to win independently of the farm shop - including being named one the Best Roadside Eateries in the UK in the upmarket 'White Van Gourmand' guide, as well as 'Olive' magazine naming our bacon sandwich 'Britain's Best Bacon Butty'.
Simon Haigh says in the feature: “We are constantly moving forwards and changing and adapting to what our customers want. They are the driving wheel of our business and without them none of us would be here doing what we enjoy." He goes on to reveal; "We are currently making changes within the shop so we can incorporate a deli, new dairy and vegetable area, plus a ready-meal section.”
The article finishes off by calling us "The shop that provides customers with a great taste of Yorkshire - whatever the weather." We think that sounds about right!
Simon Haigh Talks To The Meat Industry
Demonstrating champion pie-making skills
The National Federation of Meat & Food Traders (NFMFT) recently celebrated its 125th anniversary, at which Simon Haigh was guest speaker. He spoke to the industry about his expert subject of champion pies, whilst giving a demonstration on pork pie making skills. Don’t worry though; he didn’t give away any secrets.
